The building that houses the museum was built in the mid-1950s as a public school for African-Americans. After integration and consolidation, both black and white students attended “Sharon Grove” until a new elementary school was built.
The Class Room remains virtually untouched and exhibits items from the various schools of western York County. Of primary importance are four student desks built by South Carolina youth for a York County African-American school, under the Roosevelt Administration. This room is reserved for classes and programs for children from the local school.
